SIXTH GRADE ENVIRONMENTAL ART CONTEST

Sarah GrudgerWinners of the twelfth annual Sixth Grade Environmental Art Contest sponsored in Henderson County pubilc, private, and home schools by the Environmental and Conservation Organization were recently announced. 

The theme for the 2006-2007 Environmental Art Contest for sixth graders in Henderson County public, private, and home schools is "Recycling:  Who, What, Why, Where, When."  Mmmm.  Can YOU come up with artwork that speaks to that topic? 

The artwork will be displayed during November 2006 in the auditorium of Henderson County library on Washington Street.  Prizes were awarded to the top six artists chosen by a panel of judges.The winners received prizes donated from The Bicycle Company of Hendersonville; BikeWays bike shop; the Sports Cellar; The Wrinkled Egg; and K-Mart.

1st place – Sarah Grudger (Hendersonville Middle School)
2nd place – Holly Ridgeway (Apple Valley Middle School)
3rd place – Kelsey Davis (Apple Valley Middle School)
4th place – Olivia Dietrich (Hendersonville Middle School)
5th place – Mariela Cruz (Hendersonville middle School)
6th place – Yasmin Estrada (Apple Valley Middle School)

2006 Environmental Art Contest Winners

The artwork of 47 students from eight Henderson County schools were displayed at Henderson County Library auditorium during April. The 2006 theme was – “Endangered Species – Do You Know Any?” ECO’s Environmental Art Contest is held each year for students in Henderson County public and private schools and home schoolers.


The winners of the 2006 contest:

1st place – Natalie Ramstadt (Immaculata Catholic School)

2nd place – Anna Sprude (Apple Valley Middle School)

3rd place – Jordan Drake (Apple Valley)

4th place – Victoria Sutton (Mountain Community School)

5th place – Timmie Hoffman (Flat Rock Middle School)

6th place – Jacob Heulo (Balfour Middle School)


The winners received prizes donated from Diamond Brand Outdoors; Mast General Store; Touchstone Gallery; Dancing Bear Toys; Cradle of Forestry; and Wildbirds Unlimited. In addition, the winners, plus selected finalists, were treated to a one-day group experience at Mountain Trail Outdoor School at Kanuga Conference Center.
